Mille Lacs County Economic Relief Grant Now Available

The Mille Lacs County Economic Relief Grant program is now accepting applications from for-profit small businesses and individuals impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of the Mille Lacs County COVID-19 Economic Relief Grant is to provide temporary working capital support to local small businesses and individuals adversely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic including any business interruption caused by a required closure. Non-profit organizations and government units requesting funding are encouraged to reach out to the Mille Lacs County Administrative Services Office for alternative funding assistance.

Funding for this program is made possible by the Coronavirus Relief Fund (CRF), which is a part of the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES). As a part of the distribution of these federal funds to eligible local units of government, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has strongly encouraged a minimum of 10% of CRF funds to be used to assist businesses and individuals negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Small for-profit businesses must meet the following eligibility requirements: have 50 or fewer full-time employees; a physical commercial or industrial location in Mille Lacs County; good standing with the Minnesota Secretary of State office; current on all taxes, charges, and bills due to Mille Lacs County from February 1, 2020 or prior; ability to show economic impact resulting from COVID-19; required business closures are eligible to apply for funds. The maximum grant amount for small businesses is $10,000 with the minimum grant amount being $1,000. Home-based businesses and sole-proprietorships that do not meet the requirements above are encouraged to apply for assistance as an individual.

Individuals that face homelessness due to eviction orders or mortgage foreclosure may apply for rent or mortgage assistance through the Economic Relief Grant program. Individuals may also apply for assistance with delinquent utility payments. Individuals seeking assistance must be permanent residents of Mille Lacs County, be current on all taxes, bills, or charges due to Mille Lacs County from February 1, 2020 or prior and be able to provide two forms of identification showing proof of residence. Home-based businesses and sole proprietorships must be able to provide adequate documentation that the business they are applying for is their primary source of income. The maximum grant amount for individuals is $10,000 with the minimum grant amount being $1,000.

No paper applications will be accepted. Completed digital applications and supporting documents should be emailed to EconomicReliefGrant@millelacs.mn.gov. Completed digital applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. on October 2, 2020, to be considered.
