COVID-19 and Masks

Just a reminder that COVID-19 contacts still have to quarantine even if they were wearing a mask.

  • Cloth face coverings, masks, and face shields are an additional step to help slow the spread of COVID-19 when used in combination with other strategies, including physical and social distancing. Masks do not offer 100% protection from contracting or spreading COVID-19.
  • From the CDC: “Cloth face coverings are an additional step to help slow the spread of COVID-19 when combined with every day preventive actions and social distancing in public settings.”
  • A cloth face covering may not protect the wearer, but it may keep the wearer from spreading the virus to others.
  • As an analogy: a car has brakes, seatbelts, and airbags because none of them are sufficient on their own to provide maximum safety. It’s the same with masks, physical distancing, and quarantining – all of them are used to ensure the greatest risk reduction.
