County Engineer

The County Engineer, and the Public Works staff, is responsible for the administration of both the maintenance and highway construction divisions.The administrative function of the Public Works Department includes the planning, budgeting, directing and goal setting for short term and long term objectives.

Permits

Permits for road related activities are required for the following:

  • Drive Entrance with or without a Mailbox
  • Dust Control
  • Noxious Weed No Spray
  • Over Sized Load and Over Weight Loads
  • Street closure
  • Utility Installation
  • Work in the Public Right-of-Way

Noxious Weed Spraying

The Mille Lacs County SWCD manages the noxious weed spraying efforts for the Public Works Department. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the SWCD at 320-983-2160.

Soo Line Trail (South) & Multi-Use Bridge

Mille Lacs County Public Works Department provides limited maintenance on the Soo Line Trail within the County. The Trail traverses the northern part of the County and more specifically runs between Royalton in Morrison County and Saunders Junction, Wisconsin (near Superior, Wisconsin).

Soo Line Bridge

Intersecting Trails & Indirect

Access The Soo Line Trial South intersects the Soo Line Trail North in Moose Lake. Between Onamia and Isle the Trail is paved (approximately 11 miles), and provides indirect access to Mille Lacs Kathio State Park and (Onamia) and Father Hennepin State Park (Isle).

Multi-Use Bridge

A multi-use bridge was erected over USTH 169 in 2008 to make a safer crossing of the highway.
